ADVERBS



Adverbs is a word which is used to explain the subject. Adverbs is a words that modify verbs. Adverb is a modifying part of speech. It describes verbs, other adverbs, adjectives, and phrases. They are used to describe how, where, when, how often and why something happens.

Most adverbs are formed by adding “ly” to an adjective

·         slow – slowly
·         brief – briefly
·         deep – deeply
·         mysterious – mysteriously
·         careful – carefully
·         total – totally
·         powerful – powerfully
·         loose – loosely
·         massive – massively
·         desperate – desperately
·         easy – easily

2.      Adverb of Time
·         Let’s begin to work now. [Mari kita mulai bekerja sekarang.]
·         Yusron always comes late. [Yusron selalu datang terlambat.]
·         The postman comes daily. [Tukang post datang setiap hari.]

3.      Adverb of Place
·         My boss is out. [Bos saya sedang keluar.]
·         Stay here. [Diam di sini.]
·         She always looks down. [Dia selalu melihat ke bawah.]

4.      Adverb of Frequency
·         I often forget her name. [Saya sering lupa namanya.]
·         She seldom visits her mother. [Dia jarang mengunjungi ibunya.]
·         I have told you twice. [Saya sudah memberitahumu dua kali.]

5.      The normal position of adverb is manner, place, and time (MPT)
·         She studied hard in her room last night

6.      The position may change into place, manner, and time when there are verbs such as go, reach, leave, arrive, come, return, get, walk, run, etc.
·         He arrived home early last night

7.      Past tense
(+) Louis speaks English loudly
(–) Louis does not speak English loudly
(?) does Louis speak English loudly?

8.      Past tense
(+) Harry and Reuben gave the text spontanciously
(–) Harry and Reuben did not gave the text spontanciously
(?) Did Harry and Reuben gave the text spontanciously?
